World’s Strongest Viking Breaks Thousand Year-Old Record

Icelandic strongman, and Game of Thrones star Hafthor ‘The Mountain’ Bjornsson has destroyed a 1000 year-old record.

In February Bjornnson was competing in the World’s Strongest Viking competition for his second time, when he was confronted by the log carry event.

Legend has it that Orm Storulfsson was able to carry a 640 kg log for three steps before his back snapped. The tale, which has been passed on for a thousand years, says it took 50 men to lift the log onto Storulfsson’s shoulders.

At the World’s Strongest Viking event last month, a 650 kg, 10 meter long, log was suspended between two uprights. Bjornsson was able to lift it and walk with it on his shoulders for an amazing five steps before his strength gave out.

A euphoric Bjornsson said on Twitter, “The legend of the Icelander Orm Storulffsson says that he walked three steps with this MONTER WOODEN LOG which weighs over 600 kg/ 1320 lbs! It took 50 mere mortals to help him place it on his back!! After he took his third step his back broke under the enormous pressure and he was never the same after that!! Well today, my friends, I made history!! As well as winning the title of the World’s Strongest Viking for the second time in a row, I carried this MONSTER LOG 5 steps!! My back held up fine!! As I’m on my way to my ultimate goal to win the World’s strongest Man!! NOTHING CAN STOP ME!! NOTHING CAN BREAK ME!!”
