A stacked card awaits fight fans at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre on May 10. UFC fight night 65, headlined by Stipe Mioic and adopted Aussie Mark ‘the Super Samoan’ Hunt (heavyweights).

The fightcard will boast the very impressive up-and-coming Robert Whittaker against Brad Tavares (middleweights), Jake Matthews versus James Vick, Anthony Perosh and Sean O’Connell, and the Australian debut for Alex ‘Astro-girl’ Chambers (straw-weight – 52 kgs).

Chambers is excited to be fighting the plucky Hawaiian Kaila Curran. Chambers is coming off a loss to Aisling Daly (in the TUF house). But both girls know they are fighting to stay in the UFC.

“I never thought I would be fighting for the UFC in Australia,” said Chambers, “not even in my wildest dreams.”

At 36 years of age Chambers is one of the older competitors. But she believes her experience, speed and elusive fighting style will be enough to see her victorious in front of her home crowd.

“I started martial arts back in the 80s and there was some negativity being a female in a mle dominated sport (back then).

“But I’ve never focused on those people.

“If you join a good gym, surround yourself with good coaches and teammates – that will help you achieve your goals.”

Australian UFC fans hope she’s right. As Australia’s first female UFC competitor Chambers must know she has the entire country wishing her well. As with all the Australians fighting that night, we know they’ll give they’re opponents hell.
